Mindungsan Silver Grass Hike: Jeongseon’s Open Ridges and Round Hollow

Mindungsan in Jeongseon, Gangwon: a 1,118.8 m mountain with open grass slopes and current access restrictions

A small patch of water sits within the folds of the mountain. Grass covers the surrounding slopes, while the round hollow keeps a different color at the center. From above, it resembles a small eye in the landscape.

The Mindungsan silver grass hike belongs to Jeongseon in Gangwon, not the similarly named mountain in Gyeonggi. Korea Tourism Organization lists its elevation as 1,118.8 m and notes the scarcity of trees near the summit. That open ground gives the mountain a distinctive autumn view.

These broad fields are reached on a mountain hike. The appearance of a smooth grass slope should not be mistaken for a level garden walk. The ridges and hollow make sense as parts of the same high landscape.

Operating arrangements can change. Check the official visitor information before traveling.

A wooden fence and an earth path mark the ridge. Warm-colored grass fills the foreground, with much darker mountains layered behind it. Few large trees interrupt the view near the top.

The eye moves easily from individual stems to the farther ranges. The attraction is not just the density of the silver grass, but the amount of landscape visible beyond it.

Lines in the grass descend toward a hollow in the slope. The small pool separates itself from the surrounding field by color and shape, making the ground’s contours easier to see.

Water level and appearance should not be assumed to remain identical on every visit. The enduring visual feature is the relationship between the depression and the surrounding slopes, rather than a promised shade of blue.

How distance changes the view

From higher ground, the pool appears as a round mark in a broad hillside. A nearer viewpoint changes the balance between the water, the surrounding grass and the opposite slope. The same feature can explain the landscape in different ways.

Stay with the established trail and let the angle of view change as the route allows. A wider view of the ground can reveal more than simply trying to get closer to the water.

Where a tree stands among the grass, it gives the slope a useful sense of scale. Its branching outline contrasts with the many fine stems around it. The hillside continues well beyond that single landmark.

Mindungsan feels different from a hike contained within a forest. The sparse trees near the summit leave the shape of the ridge exposed, making the mountain’s name—often rendered as “bare mountain”—easier to understand.

Beyond the summit marker

The stone marker is one point in a much larger scene. Beyond it lie layered ridges; elsewhere, the field folds down around the hollow. Reaching the top does not reduce the mountain to a single photograph.

Jeongseon’s official 2026 festival notice lists September 18–November 8 and names Mindungsan Sports Ground as the event venue. The sports-ground programs and the mountain’s grass fields are separate locations.

The county’s official bus-information response states that the linked Mindungsan shuttle is suspended and vehicle entry to the Balgudeok area is restricted during the festival period. Do not build an approach plan around an older account of shuttle access.

With current access checked and the outing planned as a hike, Mindungsan offers more than an autumn field. A small round hollow among open ridges gives the landscape its own shape, distinct from other silver grass destinations.
